Grazing rye green manure

digging in the grazing rye
Although we chopped down the grazing rye a few weeks ago,  it was re sprouting and growing again. Any of your green manures need to have their roots turned upside down and well chopped up to make sure they dont regrow and you get them well broken down in the soil before your next crop is planted in.

The thing I have found about growing rye  in particular is that although it is listed as a green manure that you can sow from August to November it never germinates for me after September. This is not true in other gardens where I have used it as late as November and its usually done really well. But this is a prime example how what works for one garden wont do in another, its all trial and error in the end.
